Meet the Staff

  • Brian Cosby Senior Pastor

    A native of Signal Mountain, Brian was called to Wayside in April 2012 after serving churches in Alabama and Georgia. He is an adjunct professor of historical theology at Reformed Theological Seminary, Atlanta, and at Ligonier's Reformation Bible College in Sanford, Florida. He holds degrees from Samford University (B.A.), Beeson Divinity School (M.Div.), and the Australian College of Theology (Ph.D.). Brian is a chaplain (Capt.) in the United States Air Force Reserves, serves on the board of trustees for Covenant Theological Seminary, is an advisory board member of Beeson Divinity School, a council member of the Gospel Reformation Network, and is a content writer for Ligonier Ministries. He is also the author of over a dozen books, which can be found HERE. Brian enjoys reading, carpentry, hunting, and fishing. He and his wife, Ashley, have three children and live on a small farm.
  • Charles "Chuck" BarretT ASsociate PASTOR

    Charles “Chuck” Barrett was called to Wayside in April 2015. He grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, where his father was an Old Testament Professor at Bob Jones University and where Chuck also earned a B.A., M.A. in Theology, and Ph.D. in church history. Before coming to Wayside, Chuck served as the Interim President and Professor of Theology at Geneva Reformed Seminary in Greenville and an Assistant Pastor at a local Presbyterian church there. He serves as adjunct professor at Belhaven University, Chattanooga. He loves reading, hiking, kayaking, and cycling. Chuck and his wife, Bridget, have two children.

  • Allen Hawkins  Pastoral Assistant

    Dr. Allen Hawkins grew up in Reidsville, North Carolina and graduated from Covenant College. He and his wife, Dorcas, moved to Chattanooga from Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 2018 to join their two adult children and become members at Wayside. He holds an M.Div. from Union Presbyterian Seminary and an Ed.D. in Adult Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. While in Hattiesburg, he served as stated pulpit supply at 5 small Presbyterian churches for 11 years. He is currently licensed to preach by Tennessee Valley Presbytery and is taking further education at Reformed Theological Seminary.

  • Ken Harmon  Ministry Coordinator

    Ken serves as a ruling elder at Wayside Presbyterian Church and provides organizational leadership to the various ministries. He grew up in Franklin, Tennessee, where he attended Battle Ground Academy and later the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. He is currently working on a Master of Divinity at Reformed Theological Seminary. He is married to Meg and they have three grown children, and five grandchildren who they love to spend time with. Before moving to Signal Mountain, he and his wife lived in Charleston, South Carolina, briefly because of a job assignment and prior to that lived in Nolensville, Tennessee, where they raised their family. There he worked as a stockbroker serving his clients for 35 years in the financial service industry while serving as an elder at Christ Community Church (PCA) and heading up the Mercy & Missions Committee for the Nashville Presbytery.  

  • Mary pat mitchell OFFICE manager

    Mary Pat Mitchell graduated from Covenant College with a B.A. in English and has served in churches, law offices, and universities as an administrative assistant. She is married to Danny, who is a pastor at New City East Lake.  Together they sell antiques and collectibles on several online platforms.  They have two children, Claire and Ben. Mary Pat enjoys reading, music, horses, and being outside.

  • Michael Moore  Music Director

    Michael grew up in Chattanooga and in 2013 received a B.A. in Music from Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee. He has had the opportunity to serve in the music ministries of several churches and perform music all over the southeast. He and his wife, Chelsae (also a musician), have two children.

  • Allen Wallace  Pastoral assistant of Visitation

    A retired pastor and professor, Allen serves in the areas of visitation and personal discipleship. He holds a Master of Divinity in New Testament from Temple Baptist Theological Seminary and served as a Presbyterian pastor before joining the faculty of Chattanooga State in the graphic design and art department. Allen is married to Jan and they have two children and two grandchildren. 

  • Jodi Hiser  Women's Ministry Coordinator / Musician

    Jodi and her husband, Matt, moved their family to this area in October of 2014. She is a homegrown Texan that has found captivating adventure in the mountains of Tennessee! Jodi began playing the piano and harp at a young age; refining her skills through college, and playing professionally after graduation. She enjoys sharing her love of the Savior through music in ministry at church, and by teaching others through her business at Jubilee Music Studio. Beyond the joy of music, Jodi loves date nights with her husband, homeschooling her six kids, writing children's stories, and hiking the Tennessee trails with her family.

  • Brittany Patterson  Organist / Musician

    Brittany Patterson comes from the rural town of Sale Creek, Tennessee, and was raised by parents who love music and believe all gifts should be used to serve the Lord and His church. After a childhood filled with music lessons, Brittany began her musical calling of church musician at the age of fifteen. In 2007, Brittany married her husband Aaron, and together they have two children. In 2018, the Patterson family joined Wayside, where Brittany currently serves by singing, playing organ and piano, and teaching women’s Bible studies. When she’s not serving at church, Brittany is usually cooking in her kitchen or enjoying fellowship with family and friends.

  • Sherry Moss  CHILDREN'S & NURSERY DIRECTOR

    Sherry received her BS in Elem. Ed/Sp. Ed from the Univ. of TN Martin and her J.D. from the Univ of Memphis. She practiced employment relations litigation in Atlanta where she also actively served in both the children's and women's ministries at East Cobb Presbyterian, PCA. In 1996, she, her husband, David, and their two sons moved to Signal Mountain where David had grown up. Sherry changed her practice to part-time consulting and became active in Wayside's children's and women's ministries. She and David also founded and served on the board of Signal Mountain Christian School. Sherry enjoys reading, traveling and time with family and friends.

  • Brent Bowman  treasurer

    Brent was raised on Signal Mountain and graduated from McCallie in 2001. He attended FSU and UTC before entering the insurance industry. Brent is now at Financial Management Group in Hixson, TN. He is married to Amanda Bowman and they have two children. He loves to spend time outside and with his family.

  • larry mick  Choir Director

    Larry attended Haverford College, Vanderbilt Law School, and NYU graduate school. He served active duty in the US Navy from 1967-1969, and practiced law in Chattanooga from 1971-1979. He worked in the trust department of local banks from 1979 til his retirement in 2008. Larry has been involved in Wayside's choir since 1971, and has directed on and off since 1973. He enjoys all sorts of music.

  • Jan Wallace  Hospitality Coordinator

    A native of Chattanooga, Jan has lived here most of her life. She and her husband, Allen, have lived on Signal Mountain since 2015. She has a B.A. in fine art from Tennessee Temple University, though after raising two daughters enjoyed employment in an administrative capacity at various businesses around the city. Currently, she works part-time at Salon 30A where she does everything but hair. Jan enjoys crochet, choir practice, entertaining at home, and having her two granddaughters over whenever they can come. 

  • Tim Webb  Maintenance Coordinator

    In addition to serving as Wayside's maintenance coordinator, Tim also serves as a deacon. A long-time member at Wayside, he retired from Southern Cellulose Products in 2010 to work with Habitat for Humanity and to manage a property in McLemore Cove (N. GA). When he's not serving at Wayside and spending time in Colorado, Tim enjoys being a soccer referee and hiking/backpacking.
