Introduction: Jesus quoted this Psalm as He was dying on the cross, and much of it applies directly to Him. However, it is also about King David, and it is his response to difficult situations. This morning I would like to point out four lessons we can apply to our own lives:
I. God will never forsake us (vs. 1).
David FELT forsaken by God. Jesus FELT forsaken by God. But God did not leave either David or Jesus. He will not leave you either.
II. We are not worms in God's eyes (vs. 6).
David FELT as if he was a worm. You may sometimes feel that way. But God regards you as His child. You are the apple of His eye. Jesus says we are His friends.
III. We DO have many enemies (vs. 12).
David has enemies that literally sought to kill him. Jesus had enemies who nailed Him to the cross. We have enemies, too. The world, the flesh and the devil. But God knows all about our enemies, and God protects us.
IV. The Future is very Bright (vs. 27).
We may be discouraged by contemporary events. If you watch TV, and read newspapers and magazines, you get a big dose of bad news every day. But the Bible gives us the good news. Jesus shall reign.
Conclusion: Where is God when you need Him? He is still there. He has not moved. He loves us with an everlasting love. We are not worms. We are God's children. We have many enemies, but God will protect us. The future is bright. Amen.
