Title: Serving God in Your Old Age

Introduction: God is an “equal opportunity employer.” Young, middle-aged, or elderly, He wants all of us to serve Him. Sometimes as we grow older, and feel our strength decline, and times change and we feel left behind, we think that our days of usefulness are over. That’s just not true. There are many illustrations from the Bible about elderly people serving the Lord in wonderful ways.

I. Our first example is Caleb (Joshua 14:6-15).
A. When he was 40, he served the Lord as a spy.
B. He assisted Joshua and Israel in conquering the promised land.
C. Now he is 85, and he wants to fight some more. He wants to take
Hebron, the home of the giant Anakim. And he does so!

II. Consider Noah (Genesis 7:1-6).
He was 600 years old when the flood came, 500 when he began to
build the ark.

III. Zecharias and Elizabeth were old when God gave them John the Baptist.
(See Luke 1:5-7, 13-17)

IV. Simeon and Anna were old, yet served the Lord every day with prayers.
(Luke 2:25-38).

V. Samson was fairly old when he died, and he did more for the Lord on the day
of his death, than in all his previous lifetime (Judges 16:21-31).

Conclusion: Young, middle-aged, elderly, we can all find opportunities to serve the Lord in great and wonderful ways!
