John 11:1-45
The Power of Jesus to Raise the Dead

Introduction: Here in John eleven, we find the story of Jesus, Mary and Martha, and Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from death. The command, "Lazarus come forth!" still rings in our ears 2000 years after the deed. The New Testament records other instances of Jesus' power over death:

I. Luke 7:11-16 -- Here Jesus raised the son of the widow of Nain.

II. Luke 8:41-57 -- Here Jesus raised the daughter of Jairus.

III. Matthew 11:1-6 hints that there may have been many other resurrection miracles performed by Jesus.

IV. When Jesus died on the cross, many of the dead were raised (Matthew 27:50-53).

V. Jesus raised Himself from death (John 10:18).

VI. Jesus will raise each of us physically from death (I Corinthians 15:52). He has already raised us spiritually, and given us eternal life.

Conclusion: Today is Easter Sunday. Comfort your hearts, and rejoice, as we remember Jesus' power to raise the dead. He is risen!
