Introduction: From time to time, nearly every Christian worries about losing his or her salvation. Sometimes our sins make us have doubts, or we have a period of rebellion against God. Sometimes we have intellectual doubts, which may take a while to work out. Sometimes we are depressed by the problems of life. But if you truly are a child of God, you can never lose your salvation. Here are some words of encouragement from the Lord.
I. Remember that Jesus really is who He claimed to be: Christ and God (John 10:24-25a, 33). He made it plain many times (for example, John 5:18 and 8:58). He is the second Person of the Trinity, which is taught in the Bible (Matt. 28:19 and I Peter 1:1-2). Our culture constantly tries to tear down our Faith in Jesus, and put Him on the level of Buddha or Mohammed. Stand firm in your Faith. He really is God in the flesh. He really is God's annointed one, the Christ.
II. You can never be lost because God chose you to be one of His before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4, 5).
III. You can never be lost because God has sealed you with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14).
IV. You can never be lost because Jesus knows you by name (John 10:3, 27).
V. You can never be lost because Jesus promised to give you eternal life (John 10:28). Note two things: it is a gift; and it is eternal life, not merely long life.
VI. You can never be lost because no one can pull you away from Jesus or the Father (John 10:28-29). Sometimes people argue, and say, "Well, maybe no one can pull me away from God, but I can leave Him myself." Why do you think God will let you go? He chose you before the foundation of the world. Jesus died for you. Jesus said He would go get the 1 sheep that wandered astray. God won't let you go anymore than He will let someone pull you away. (Romans 8:38-39).
Conclusion: Be encouraged! None of God's children are perfect. We still sin, we have doubts, we can get discouraged. But cheer up, and pick yourself up when you fall, and serve the Lord. We are kept by the power of God, and there is no doubt at all that we shall gather together around the throne of Grace in Heaven itself, and thus shall we ever be with the Lord. Amen.
