"Spiritual Food and Drink"

May 31, 1999

INTRO: People today are fat (Chatt. Times). We eat too much, and we don't eat the right foods. God calls us to eat His spiritual food and drink his spiritual drink:

I. Isaiah 55:1-2
A. David said he thirsted for God (Psalm 42:1-2)
B. Jesus and the woman at the well (John 4:4-14).
C. Many today are hungry and thirsty for spiritual experiences, but they
are eating and drinking poison (Illustrate).

II. Isaiah 55:3-5
A. God offered to renew the Davidic Covenant (2 Sam. 7:1-17).
B. Partially fulfilled in Solomon's reign.
C. Future fulfillment in Jesus' reign.

III. Isaiah 55:6-7
A. Before you come to the dinner table you must wash up.
B. Before enjoying God's food and drink, you must repent.
C. God is full of mercy and pardon.

IV. Isaiah 55:8-11
A. God's thoughts and ways are recorded in His Word.
B. In God's Word we find spiritual food and drink.

CONCLUSION: A challenge to repentance, and to Bible study.
