INTRO: Isaiah was predicting a time in Israel's history, in which there would be only a few men, due to the ravages of war. In that time, women would be desparate for husbands, and so "seven women will take hold of one man." For social status, for children. The ultimate reason for the shortage of men was Israel's sin. So today in America, there is a shortage of men, due to sin. A shortage of real men. What is a real man, from a Christian perspective?
I. A real man is a man
who loves God.
Job was a real man
(Job 1:1-3)
America needs more
men like Job.
II. A real man is a man
who keeps his word.
A. This is one of
God's great qualities! (Josh. 21:43-45)
B. It is a given in
life that people break their word.
Real Estate agents
are constantly stood up by clients.
People won't pay
their bills on time.
C. How refreshing
to find a person with integrity!
III. A real man is a man
who remains faithful to his wife and children.
A. Fatherless homes
are rampant in America. (Time article)
B. Our heavenly Father
is constantly loyal to His children.
Jesus Christ
is constantly faithful to His Church, in spite of our
shortcomings.
CONCLUSION: Much more could be said, but these three principles are plenty. There is a shortage of real men in America. Men who love God, men who keep their word, and men who are faithful to their wives and children. May the Lord help us to be such men!
