Isaiah 24:1-6
The End of the World As We Know It
October 5, 1997

Intro: Obviously the world must come to an end, someday. Scientists and philosophers have argued for centuries whether the world will eventually freeze, or be burned to a crisp by an exploding sun. Kooks in sandwich boards have paraded on street corners, proclaiming "Repent, the end of the world is coming!" The end of the world IS coming, and the Bible has quite a lot to say about it.

I. This passage in Isaiah 24 is the finale to Chapters 13-23, in which 9 nations, or city/states are cursed by God: Babylon; Assyria; Moab; Damascus; Cush; Egypt; Edom; Arabia and Tyre.
All these nations had oppressed Israel, and were also full of sin and idolatry.
Note some of what God said to them: Isaiah 13:9; 14:24-26;

II. Now in Chapter 24 God proclaims His wrath and judgment on the whole world.
Is. 24:1-6

III. Many Details about this final Day of Judgement in the book of Revelation:
6:8 One fourth population killed by sword, famine and plague
Everyone will be afraid (Rev. 6:15-17)
8:7-11 One third of the earth burned up.
One third of the ocean polluted
One third of the fish die
One third of the ships are destroyed
One third of the rivers and springs are polluted

NOTE: Mankind remains unrepentant through all this (Rev. 9:20-21; 16:8-10).

19:17-21 The Battle of Armageddon

20:7-10 The Last Battle

21:1 and 2 Peter 3:7, 10-13 The old earth is burned up, and a new earth is made.

CONCLUSION: So what? Why did God tell us about the end of the world? Peter's admonition is appropriate: 2 Peter 3:11, 14. Let's get right with God, and lead holy lives.
