Isaiah 10:5-15
The Sovereignty of God
September 7, 1997

INTRODUCTION: Sovereignty means: "having supreme power." The Sovereign is the King. God is the King. Remember the hymn: "O worship the King, all glorious above, and gratefully sing, His power and His love. Our shield and defender, the Ancient of Days, pavillioned in splendor, and girded with praise." This passage speaks of the Sov. of God.

I. God Rules Over All the Nations of the Earth.
A. The king of Assyria thought he was really great (Is. 10:12-14).
B. But he was merely a tool in God's hand (Is. 10:15).
C. Even as the Assyrian king did not see God's hand, but it was really God at work, so today, people may not see God's hand, but He is doing His will among the nations. Daniel 4:34-35.

II. God Rules In the Lives of Individuals.

C. Was it David's lucky day, when he hit Goliath's head with his slingshot?
D. Was it merely a coincidence that Abraham's servant and Rebekah were at the well at the same time?

III. In Your Life, too: There are no accidents, good or bad luck,
but the hand of God is in everything.

The Heavenly Father is watching over you.
B. Matthew 10:29:31
C. If God is working all of my life's experiences for my good, why do they seem so bad?
ILLUS: A child's desire to eat junk, vs a mother's determination to make it eat veggies.
A child's desire to avoid pain, vs a mother's decision to get immunizations.
GOD DOES WHAT IS ULTIMATELY GOOD FOR US, NOT WHAT FEELS GOOD NOW.

CONCLUSION:
