INTRO: Everyone wants "security." From robbers: so we try ADT, watch dogs, gun under pillow, locks on doors. Financial security: so we buy insurance, do Roth IRA's, 401K plans, annuities, saving for retirement, Social Security. What about SPIRITUAL SECURITY? Will you go to Heaven when you die? Are you REALLY a child of God? What if you backslide? What if you've committed the unforgiveable sin? I want to make two points this AM about this doctrine:

I. God DOES want sinners and backsliders to be afraid for their souls.
A. Paul stirred up the Galatians (Gal. 5:4).
B. Hebrews 10:26-27, 31 will make anyone get serious about salvation!
C. Even spiritual leaders need to take heed (I Cor. 9:27).

II. God wants RESPONSIBLE CHRISTIANS to know that they are eternally secure in Jesus.
Why can't we lose our salvation?
1. Because we can't thwart God's eternal plan (Eph. 1:3-5).
2. Because God's infinite power keeps us saved (I Peter 1:3-5).
3. Because Jesus' body, the Church, cannot go through eternity incomplete
(I Cor. 12:20-27 and Ephesians 5:27).
4. Because Jesus will NEVER cast you out (John 6:37).
5. Because if you jump out and run away, the good Shepherd will come and bring
you back again (Matt. 18:12-14).

CONCLUSION: The preacher's job is to afflict the comfortable and comfor the afflict. If you have been taking your salvation for granted, wake up. If you have been fretting over your salvation, take heart! Christ died for you, you are saved by faith not works, and you are eternally secure in Christ.
