Learning to Love One Another
INTRO: Earlier in Galatians, Paul said "fulfill the law of Christ" (6:2). The "Law of Christ" is the law of love (see John 13:34-35). Today is Valentine's Day, and the culture goes all out to promote romantic love. In Galatians 6:7-10 Paul gives us some practical advice about how we can truly love each other in Christian love:
I. We should love by living for God (Gal. 6:7-8).
A. If I live in the flesh, to please myself,
that won't be good for YOU.
B. We should love one another based on our love
toward God.
1. The average person loves another person
because he sees something
likeable in that person: beauty,
brains, personality, money, connections...
2. God's way is to love one another in
obedience to God.
3. If you sow love, you will reap love.
II. We should love by doing good to everyone (Gal.
6:9-10).
A. Jesus taught us to love our neighbors (Luke
10:25-37).
B. We should especially love other Christians.
C. The Galatians were failing in this (Gal.
5:14-15).
D. If you want joy, do the acrostic:
J...esus
O...thers
Y...ourself
CONCLUSION: Look at John 13:34-35 again. Can your neighbors see the love of Christ in you? Does your love draw them to Christ? Let's learn to follow our Savior, who sacrificed His life to show us the love of God.
