Principles of Christian Giving

Introduction: We spend most of our lives trying to get money: Money for what we need, and money for what we want. The Bible says much about money, and here Paul devotes two entire chapters to the subject of Christian giving. What can we learn here?

I. We should give because we are moved by the generosity of God Himself toward us. Our Heavenly Father gave us His only Son (2 Co. 9:15). Jesus gave His blood and His life for us (2 Co. 8:9).

II. We should give because we are only stewards of all we possess (2 Co. 8:5.

III. We should give because we want to (2 Co. 8:4 and 9:7).

IV. We should give because Christians care about each other (2 Co. 8:13-15).

V. We should give because God makes us able to give (2 Co. 9:10-11).

VI. We should give because our giving glorifies God, and leads others to glorify God (2 Co. 9:11-13).

Conclusion: Pray for God to bless us with the grace of giving, and to make us cheerful and grateful givers. Amen.
